Meet Jessamy!

2 Nephi 4:20
My God hath been my support; he hath led me through mine afflictions in the wilderness; and he hath preserved me upon the waters of the great deep.

Where is your home town?
Hermiston, Oregon... you might be thinking, 'oh, it's so pretty there'... but that's not the part I'm from. I'm from the dry, flat, brown side... true wild wild west with tumble weeds. A little teeny tiny cowboy town.

How long have you been in the Hingham Ward?

Since July, when we moved here for my husband to start Dental School.

What do you choose to spend your time on? Why?

Playing with and talking to my baby. I think that narrating everything and giving her lots of attention will build her self worth and help develop her understand of the world around her, also her vocabulary.

What's a "Fun Fact" about you"

I have never met anyone with my name. My mom read it in a novel when she was pregnant with me. It's Persian.

What's the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?

Sounds cheesy-but my beautiful daughter. We tried for a long time to have a baby. We thought it might never happen naturally for us. We both cried when she was finally in our arms.

Who can always make you laugh? How?

My dad. He is seriously like a stand-up comedian, only right in your own kitchen!

What Else can we know about you?

My favorite movies are Dan In Real Life and Matilda. I nearly die laughing in the scene where they sing about "Ruthie-pig-nose." I love Historical Mystery novels, know any good ones? :)

Finally,

What is your favorite scripture?

2 Nephi 4:20
My God hath been my support; he hath led me through mine afflictions in the wilderness; and he hath preserved me upon the waters of the great deep.

In my life the "wilderness" and "waters of the great deep" are figurative, but looking through my past brings me comfort because its evidence of Heavenly Father's hand in my life.

December Visiting Teach Message

Silvia H. Allred, first counselor in the Relief Society general presidency: “The Lord has blessed women with divine attributes of love, compassion, kindness, and charity. Through our monthly visits as visiting teachers, we have the power to bless each sister as we extend our arms of love and kindness and give the gifts of compassion and charity. … It is my prayer that we will pledge an increased commitment to extend our arms of love and compassion to bless, help, and strengthen each other as we go about doing our visiting teaching with a willing and joyful heart” (“Feed My Sheep,” Liahona and Ensign, Nov. 2007, 113, 115).

Meet Holly

Holly Andrus has been a member of the ward since 1999. She is currently serving as Relief Society President and there is much to love about her. Here's a little taste of who she is:

I grew up in Pocatello, Idaho but left to go to college at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where I majored in Sociology with an emphasis on the juvenile justice system. I went to the University of Chicago for graduate school and majored in "Social Service Administration." which basically means that I love to organize people and programs...as long as I can concentrate on the big picture and let someone else deal with the details (no memory for names or details)... I love helping people solve problems and I specialized in Urban Development and Revitalization.

My most embarrassing moment was when I was at a dinner with the managing partner for my consulting group at Arthur Young & Company in Chicago. I was 25 and a relatively new employee and was at a table with my colleagues talking about our business plan. Dinner was Chicken Kiev. I had never had Chicken Kiev before and didn't know that if I stabbed the chicken breast vigorously that it would spurt butter all over the guy next to me...my new boss.

Joe and I have lived in Chicago (where we met and where all our children were born), Washington, DC, and Boston (since 1999). We have three daughters Jessica, Julie, and Abi) who are mostly grown and gone...although they drop in on occasion. When I was expecting my first child I worried a lot about the responsibility of being a parent and wondered how I would do. It never occurred to me until after Jessica was born that kids are FUN too. I take things WAY too seriously and need to be reminded to LIGHTEN UP! Having fun is something I have to work at...

Meet Tamsen

Tamsen Keyes joined us from Victoria, Vancouver, Canada in 2008. She's been fantastic addition to the ward and is currently serving as a Counselor in the Relief Society Presidency. Here's just a little bit about her (Tamsen's responses in red):

what is your happy thought? (think peter pan here) Relaxing somewhere warm and tropical with my husband.

what is your favorite book, piece of music, or work of art? My favorite works of art are photographs of my children.

you are given twenty million dollars and ten years to live...how would you spend it? I would invest in my children's future, and would travel the world with my family.

what's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen? The longer I'm away from home the more I realize that home (Vancouver Island) is the most beautiful thing I've seen.

Meet Fawn

We have the pleasure of using this site as means to grow together. As part of this goal, we would like to share a bit about each sister, or rather have each introduce herself. Thanks to Fawn for sharing her voice first.

Fawn Mahurin

hometown:
Randolph

moved into ward:
September 1982 - August 1984, then again October 2005 to present

what is your favorite scripture?
Joshua 24:15
"choose you this day whom ye will serve; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

briefly share your education/work experience? What did/do you choose to spend your time on? why?
After attending public schools in San Jose, California and Boston and Milton here in Massachusetts, my mother decided it would be best to attend private, Catholic schools for grades 6-12. I graduated in 1992 from St. Clare High School in Roslindale. I moved back to San Jose, California and attended West Valley College and majored in Child Studies. I received my AA in Liberal Arts and my AS in Child Studies.
I have worked as a Deli Clerk for years as well as Nanny for a variety of families. I have worked at Westwood Children's School since 1996. I currently work as the Infant Toddler Coordinator. I love working with small children, to see all the development that occurs in the year that they are in my care.

what's the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?
I would have to say other than being sealed to my husband for time and all eternity, I would have to say the birth of each of my children would be the experiences in my life that I cherish most. The little miracles and the stories behind them are amazing. They changed my entire outlook on life.

who can always make you laugh? how?
My children have some of the funniest comments and statements that we have no idea where they picked them up.
